The University of Texas at Austin partners with the Carbon Capture and Storage Association to host a Side Event at COP-18

November 28, 2012 -- The University of Texas at Austin partnered with the Carbon Capture and Storage Association to host a Side Event at the United Nations Framework Convention for Climate Change/COP-18 in Doha, Qatar. The Side Event, held on the afternoon of November 27, 2012, focused on "CCS Capacity Building and Global Status: Educational Opportunities and Lessons Learned." 

'Modalities and Procedures for CCS' Text Receives Preliminary Approval

We are excited to learn that the text of the Modalities and Procedures for CCS to be incorporated in the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) were approved in Durban on Wednesday of this week (12/7/2011). The Carbon Capture and Storage Association reports that "The final decision text will be forwarded to the final plenary session later this week for adoption by the Parties although this is expected to be a formality.

Global CCS Institute Briefing

On a regular basis, the Global CCS Institute organizes a briefing on progress of the contact group on modalities and procedures for CCS and various other aspects of the meeting related to CCS. Katherine Romanak of STORE and the Gulf Coast Carbon Center, Erin Miller (graduate student working in carbon storage at UT Austin) and I have been attending the briefings as they are extremely informative.

STORE Participates in Side Event in Durban

Katherine Romanak of STORE and the Gulf Coast Carbon Center was invited to give a presentation at a side event hosted by the Carbon Capture and Storage Association (CCSA) on Tuesday, November 29, at the COP17 meeting in Durban. The side event, 'CCS in the CDM', was aimed at informing negotiators and other delegates about various aspects of CCS technology and its potential inclusion in the CDM (Clean Development Mechanism).
